Verso Vision in Tartu University Hospital Estonia
Our Estonian partner Alarmest together with Tartu University Hospital has taken a major step forward in patient safety. Early this year, Estonia’s leading daily newspaper Postimees highlighted how the hospital is using Verso Vision’s AI-powered fall prevention system to protect patients and support staff.
Falls remain one of the most common adverse events in hospitals, often causing serious injuries and longer care periods. Traditional preventive measures alone are not always enough. That is why Tartu University Hospital decided to pilot and later adopt Verso Vision, which uses AI and video analytics to continuously monitor patient rooms. The system detects early signs of risk, such as attempts to get out of bed – and sends real-time alerts directly to the nurse call system.
Ilona Pastarus, Member of the Board at Tartu University Hospital and Head of Nursing and Patient Experience, summarized the benefits in Postimees:
“Falls in hospitals are one of the most common problems, and despite preventive measures, they are not always avoidable. We tested Verso Vision, and the results are excellent – the system allows nurses and caregivers to focus on specific tasks while delegating routine monitoring to artificial intelligence. From a patient safety perspective, the system plays a significant role – if patients feel safe, it’s a major achievement.”
Evidence-based safety with privacy at its core
Verso Vision is already in use across ten countries and every university hospital in Finland. The solution has been validated in academic research, showing fall reductions of 50–70% in hospital and eldercare settings. Importantly, the system ensures privacy and GDPR compliance: all data is anonymized, and no video is stored.
Expanding in Estonia and beyond
With Alarmest, Verso Vision is being introduced to more Estonian hospitals and care facilities. The collaboration is part of our broader Nordic expansion, where hospitals and municipalities in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Estonia are already benefitting from our technology.
The partnership in Tartu shows how innovation, clinical need, and practical integration come together:
- No wearables or extra devices for patients
- No new apps or extra workload for nurses
- Direct alerts to existing nurse call systems such as Tunstall, Ascom, and BEST
We are proud to work with Alarmest and Tartu University Hospital in making healthcare safer, more efficient, and more human-centered.
